Breynia disticha (Snow Bush)

Breynia disticha, commonly known as Snow Bush, is a vibrant and eye-catching plant with small, rounded leaves splashed in shades of white, pink, and green. Native to the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, this tropical shrub adds a burst of color and texture to indoor or outdoor spaces. Its delicate, variegated foliage gives it a frosty appearance—hence the name “Snow Bush.”

To thrive, Snow Bush loves bright, indirect light. It can handle some gentle morning sun, but harsh afternoon rays can scorch its delicate leaves. Without enough light, its colorful variegation may fade, so a spot near a bright window is ideal. Water regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but never soggy. It doesn't like to dry out completely, so check the top inch of soil and water when it starts to feel dry. Good drainage is key—use a rich, well-draining potting mix.

Breynia disticha enjoys warmth and humidity, preferring temperatures between 60–85°F (16–29°C). Mist the plant or place it near a humidifier to prevent leaf drop in dry environments. Prune regularly to encourage a fuller shape and remove any leggy growth. You can also pinch back new growth to keep it compact. Fertilize monthly in the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Snow Bush is a bit dramatic—it may drop leaves when stressed (like during repotting or if humidity dips), but with steady care, it rebounds quickly and remains a colorful standout in your plant collection.
