The Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata ‘Bostoniensis’) is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, particularly Central and South America, where it thrives in humid, shaded forest understories. In its natural habitat, it receives bright, filtered light and consistent moisture, which encourages lush, arching fronds and dense growth. Replicating these conditions indoors is key to maintaining its full, feathery appearance.

Indoors, Boston Ferns do best in bright, indirect light, ideally near an east-facing window for gentle morning sun or a north-facing window with consistent, diffused light. Direct sunlight, especially from south- or west-facing windows, can scorch the delicate fronds, while too little light can cause sparse, weak growth. Maintaining moderate humidity and avoiding dry air helps the fern flourish.

To encourage even growth, rotate the plant occasionally so all sides receive light exposure. If natural light is insufficient, a full-spectrum grow light positioned above the fern can simulate the filtered forest light it prefers. With steady indirect illumination and proper humidity, Boston Ferns will maintain their lush, arching fronds and vibrant green foliage.
