Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Blechnum gibbum ‘Silver’, commonly called Silver Dwarf Tree Fern, is a compact tropical fern grown for its upright trunking habit and silvery-green fronds. Native to Fiji and other South Pacific regions, it grows in warm, humid forest environments with filtered light and consistent moisture. What makes this plant special is the symmetrical rosette of arching fronds emerging from a short central trunk, giving it a miniature tree fern appearance. The fronds are finely divided, soft in texture, and have a cool silver-green tone that stands out from deeper green ferns.

Light requirements
Place Blechnum gibbum ‘Silver’ in an east or north window for the best balance of growth and frond quality, positioned at the window or within 1 to 3 feet depending on intensity. A south or west window can work if pulled back to avoid direct sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light 12 to 18 inches above the canopy. It performs best around 100 to 300 foot-candles. Too much direct light can scorch and dry the fronds.

Watering & environment
Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, never fully dry and never saturated. Always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter before watering. This fern prefers higher humidity, steady airflow, and stable warm temperatures. Avoid letting the central crown stay waterlogged, as this can lead to rot.

What your plant is telling you
If fronds become crispy or pale at the edges, it needs more humidity or has dried too much. If the crown softens or fronds yellow rapidly, the soil is staying too wet. If growth slows or fronds become thin and sparse, it needs more consistent light.
