Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Asparagus densiflorus, commonly called asparagus fern, is a soft, feathery plant native to South Africa known for its fine, needle-like foliage that creates a full, airy look. Despite its name, it is not a true fern but grows from a root system with small tubers that store water. The stems arch and cascade as it matures, making it ideal for hanging baskets or adding texture to a space.

Light should be bright but gentle to keep the plant full and prevent thinning. Place it in an east or north-facing window where it receives steady light without direct sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the top of the plant. Too much direct sun can scorch and dry the fine foliage, while too little light will cause the plant to thin out and lose its dense shape.

Watering should stay consistent but not heavy. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy while holding some moisture. If the foliage begins to yellow and drop from the inner stems, it is often reacting to low light or inconsistent watering. If the fine leaves dry and crisp while still green, it points to low humidity rather than needing more water. If stems become sparse with longer gaps, it is reaching for more light.
