Dypsis lutescens, commonly called areca palm or butterfly palm, is a tropical palm native to Madagascar known for its multiple cane-like stems and graceful, arching fronds. What makes this plant special is its full, feathery canopy that creates an instant tropical feel while remaining one of the best palms for growing indoors.
Light drives both frond size and overall fullness. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light without prolonged harsh afternoon sun. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant with broad coverage. In lower light, growth slows, the fronds become thinner, and the plant gradually loses density. Strong, even light keeps the canopy lush and encourages healthy new fronds.
Watering should stay consistent but not excessive. Allow the top portion of the soil to dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to maintain airflow while holding enough moisture for the roots. Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth but never soggy. If the fronds begin to droop while the soil is dry, it's ready for water. Yellowing lower fronds while the soil remains wet indicate the roots are staying too saturated.
This plant communicates through its fronds. Rich green foliage and upright new growth indicate healthy conditions. Brown tips often point to low humidity, inconsistent watering, or mineral buildup from tap water rather than disease. Pale, stretched fronds signal the plant needs more light, while yellowing canes or a soft base indicate excess moisture around the roots.

from 904 reviewsIt was very packaged and plants looked great upon arrival.
I dont know if this is about the actual shipping protection for my plants when they were sent in the mail. I was happy with it, I probably didnt need it because the weather was mild, but better to have it and not need it.
