Anthurium Clarnervium vs Delta Force 4”

Anthurium clarinervium and Anthurium ‘Delta Force’ can look similar at first because both develop dark, velvety foliage with prominent pale veins, but their mature leaf shapes make them fairly easy to separate. Clarinervium develops broad, thick, almost rounded heart-shaped leaves with a deep sinus and bold silver-white venation. Delta Force develops a much more elongated, triangular to arrow-shaped leaf with pronounced lobes and a narrower overall silhouette. Clarinervium feels compact and heavy-leaved, while Delta Force has a sharper, more dramatic shape.

Anthurium clarinervium is a naturally occurring species native to Mexico. Delta Force is a cultivated Anthurium selection rather than a naturally occurring species. It originated as a selected seedling involving Anthurium clarinervium and Anthurium pedatoradiatum, which helps explain why it carries some of clarinervium’s strong venation while developing the distinctive elongated, lobed foliage associated with Delta Force.

For care, both appreciate strong, consistent light and an airy root zone. An east or south-facing window works well, or use a 5000K–6500K grow light approximately 10–14 inches above the canopy. Allow the root zone to partially dry before watering again and use a chunky, well-aerated mix. Neither requires extreme greenhouse humidity to grow successfully in a home. Consistent light, warmth, airflow, healthy roots, and steady watering habits are more important than trying to maintain extremely high humidity.

The easiest identification cue is the mature leaf shape. Clarinervium stays broad, rounded, and distinctly heart-shaped, with thick leaves and highly contrasting veins. Delta Force becomes longer and more triangular with extended basal lobes, giving the leaf a much sharper profile. Young plants can be harder to distinguish because their characteristic leaf shape may not be fully developed yet, so the newest mature leaves are much more useful for identification than juvenile foliage.
