Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Amydrium zippelianum, native to Southeast Asia, is a climbing aroid known for its dramatic leaf transformation from solid juvenile leaves to deeply fenestrated, split mature foliage. What makes this plant special is how quickly and dramatically it changes when given support—mature leaves develop elongated holes and splits that give it a wild, jungle look similar to Monstera but more refined and narrow. It climbs tightly and produces larger, more complex leaves as it matures.

Light supports both fenestration and growth speed. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will keep the plant in its juvenile form with solid leaves, while stronger light encourages faster transition into split, fenestrated growth.

Watering should stay balanced and consistent. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep the roots airy. If the plant continues producing solid leaves as it climbs, it is not getting enough light or support. If leaves become smaller with less defined fenestration, it is also reacting to lower light levels. Slower growth and longer spacing between nodes point to light issues rather than watering.
