Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Aloe vera, native to the Arabian Peninsula, is a succulent known for its thick, upright, fleshy leaves filled with water-storing gel. What makes this plant special is that gel—it’s widely used for skin support and healing, while the plant itself stays structured, architectural, and easy to maintain as it matures and produces offsets.

Light drives how thick and upright the leaves stay. Place it in a south or west-facing window where it receives strong natural light. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, the leaves will stretch longer, become thinner, and lose that tight upright form. Strong light keeps the leaves thick, compact, and slightly bluish-green.

Watering should be minimal and controlled. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it dry again, using a fast-draining mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. This plant shows thirst through slight leaf thinning or inward curling while still staying firm. If the leaves become soft, translucent, or bend at the base, the roots are staying too wet. Pale, stretched growth is almost always a light issue, not watering.
