Alocasia ‘Nobilis’, commonly called Nobilis Alocasia, is a tropical plant grown for its bold, structured foliage and strong upright growth. This is a cultivated form within the Alocasia group, often associated with the odora/portei types. What makes this plant special is the elongated, deeply veined leaves with a slightly rippled edge and a more architectural, vertical presence compared to rounder Alocasias. The leaves are medium to deep green, smooth to lightly textured, and held high on sturdy stems, giving it a tall, sculptural look.
Light requirements Place Alocasia ‘Nobilis’ in an east or south window for the best growth, positioned at the window or within 1 to 2 feet depending on intensity. A west window can work if slightly pulled back from harsh direct sun, while a north window will slow growth and reduce leaf size. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light 8 to 12 inches above the canopy. It performs best around 300 to 800 foot-candles. Consistent light supports larger leaves and stronger structure.
Watering & environment Keep the soil lightly moist but not saturated, allowing the top portion to dry slightly between waterings. Always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter before watering.
