Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Alocasia Imperialis is a large, commanding tropical aroid native to the rainforests of Borneo and surrounding regions of Southeast Asia. Growing beneath the jungle canopy, it develops massive shield-shaped leaves with a thick, leathery texture and prominent veining. Mature specimens can become truly impressive, producing foliage that gives the plant a bold architectural presence. Its dramatic size and prehistoric appearance have made it a favorite among collectors who enjoy statement plants with a strong tropical character.

Place Alocasia Imperialis within 1–3 feet of an east-facing or south-facing window. Bright light helps support the production of its large leaves and sturdy stems. Under grow lights, use a full-spectrum bulb in the 5000K–6500K range. High-output lights should be positioned 8–12 inches above the foliage, while medium-strength lights work best at 10–14 inches. Plants grown in lower light often produce smaller leaves and may stretch toward the light source as they search for better conditions.

Water when the root zone is approaching dryness, never on a schedule. Use a chopstick, moisture meter, or clear nursery pot to determine moisture levels deep within the pot before watering. A chunky mix of equal parts succulent soil, coarse orchid bark, and perlite provides the airflow and drainage needed to maintain a healthy root system. Alocasia Imperialis appreciates consistent moisture but does not tolerate soggy soil. Drooping leaves can indicate thirst, while yellowing foliage and soft stems often signal the roots are remaining wet too long. Because of its large foliage, this plant benefits from warmth, good airflow, and stable growing conditions throughout the year.
