Alocasia Gageana Aurea Variegated 6”

Alocasia gageana ‘Aurea Variegated’, native to Southeast Asia, is a bold, large-leaf alocasia known for its broad, bright green leaves splashed with yellow to lime variegation. What makes this plant special is its combination of size and color—large, tropical foliage with high-contrast variegation that can range from marbling to bold patches. It grows upright from a central base and creates a full, statement look as it matures.

Light supports both growth and stable variegation. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light can lead to more green-dominant leaves and slower growth, while too much direct sun can burn the lighter variegated areas.

Watering and environment need to stay consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy. If new leaves are emerging smaller with less variegation, it is not getting enough light. If the yellow sections begin to brown or crisp while the rest of the leaf stays firm, it is stress from light or moisture inconsistency. If the plant droops while the soil is still wet, it points to excess moisture at the roots rather than underwatering.
