Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Alocasia baginda ‘Dragon Scale’, native to Southeast Asia, is a compact alocasia known for its thick, textured leaves with deep green tones and pronounced veining that creates a raised, scale-like pattern. What makes this plant special is its reptile-like surface—almost armored in appearance—combined with a rich, matte finish that gives it a bold, sculptural look while staying relatively small and controlled.

Light supports both texture and leaf development. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will reduce the depth of the scale pattern and slow growth, while too much direct sun can stress and damage the leaf surface.

Watering and environment need to stay consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy. If new leaves are coming in smaller with less defined texture, it is not getting enough light. If the plant droops while the soil is still wet, it points to excess moisture at the roots. Edges crisping while the leaf stays firm often indicate low humidity or inconsistent moisture rather than overwatering.
