Alocasia bisma is a rare species native to Borneo where it grows in warm humid rainforest environments with steady airflow and consistently moist but well draining soil. It is not widely mass propagated which makes it harder to find and more sensitive to environmental changes than common Alocasia varieties. This plant is best suited for someone comfortable paying attention to subtle cues rather than treating it like a low maintenance houseplant.

Bright indirect light is essential for healthy growth. An east facing window or a south facing window set back a few feet provides enough light without exposing the leaves to direct sun which can cause scorching. Too little light will slow growth and limit leaf size. Rotating the plant regularly helps keep growth even and prevents leaning toward the light source.

Water based on soil moisture rather than a schedule. Use a wooden chopstick or water meter inserted deep into the pot and water only when the lower portion of the soil is mostly dry but not fully dry. Always allow excess water to drain completely so roots can breathe. Consistent warmth steady light moderate humidity and careful observation are key to keeping Alocasia bisma healthy and thriving long term.
