Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Alocasia sarawakensis ‘Yucatán Princess Variegated’. Native lineage from tropical Southeast Asia, where large Alocasias grow in warm, humid environments with rich, airy soil and constant moisture moving through the root zone. Rain is frequent, but roots never sit stagnant, and light filters through open canopy with periods of brightness. This cultivar is valued for its bold size, dark stems, and unstable white variegation layered over deep green foliage. Leaves are broad, upright, and slightly glossy with splashes or sectoral white variegation, supported by thick, dark burgundy to near-black petioles.

Light requirements.
Prefers south and east windows.
Place at the window or within 1 ft.
Grow lights 5000K–6500K.
8–12 inches from canopy.
Foot-candles: 1,500–3,000 for maintaining variegation and strong structure. Lower light reduces variegation and slows growth.

Watering & environment.
Keep soil lightly moist, not fully dry.
Use a chopstick or moisture meter to check the root zone before watering. The center should feel slightly damp, not wet.
Prefers 60%+ humidity, strong airflow, and consistent warmth. Avoid cold exposure.

What your plant is telling you.
Needs water: large leaves begin to lose firmness and slightly droop.
Too wet: yellowing leaves, soft base, and slowed growth from root stress.
Light issues: variegation fades and leaves revert greener in low light. Pale, weak growth or burn on white sections indicates poor light balance.
