Collection: Caladiums

Caladiums are tropical foliage plants prized for their vibrant, heart-shaped leaves that come in shades of pink, red, green, and white. These plants thrive in bright, indirect light and prefer a warm, humid environment. While they can tolerate some morning sun, too much direct sunlight—especially in the afternoon—can scorch their delicate leaves. Indoors, an east-facing window or a spot near a bright, filtered light source is ideal.

Caladiums grow from tubers and have a natural dormancy period, typically in fall or winter. During the growing season (spring through early fall), keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. They do not like to dry out completely, but overwatering can lead to rot. A light, well-draining potting mix works best, and adding some perlite or peat can help retain moisture without waterlogging the roots. These plants also love warmth, so aim to keep them in a space that stays above 65°F.

When the leaves start to yellow and die back in fall, that’s a sign your caladium is going dormant—not dying. Reduce watering, let the foliage fade naturally, and either store the tubers in a cool, dry place or leave them in the pot with dry soil until spring. Once warmer temperatures return, resume watering and move the plant back to a bright location to encourage fresh growth. With the right care and seasonal attention, caladiums add a bold pop of color and tropical charm to any space.
