Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Platycerium superbum (often sold as giant staghorn fern), native to Australia, is an epiphytic fern known for its large, antler-shaped fronds that grow outward and can reach impressive size as it matures. What makes this plant special is its dramatic structure—layered shield fronds at the base with long, branching fertile fronds that create a bold, sculptural, wall-mounted look.

Light should be bright but filtered to support growth without burning the fronds. Place it in an east-facing window or a bright south exposure with indirect light. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–18 inches from the plant with broad coverage. In lower light, fronds stay smaller and growth slows. Strong, even light supports larger, more defined antler-like fronds.

Watering depends on its mounting or pot setup but should stay consistent. Soak the root ball or mounting medium thoroughly, then allow it to dry out slightly before watering again. Use an airy mix like orchid bark and sphagnum moss. This plant shows stress through its fronds—if they droop or thin, it’s drying out too much. If the base becomes soft or develops a sour smell, it’s staying too wet. The shield fronds will turn brown naturally over time—this is normal and should not be removed.
