Scindapsus treubii ‘Moonlight’ is a climbing aroid native to Southeast Asia, known for its thick, elongated leaves covered in a silvery-green sheen with a contrasting dark green central vein. Unlike the spotted silver patterning found on many Scindapsus, Moonlight’s color spreads across nearly the entire leaf, giving the foliage a smooth, metallic appearance. As it matures and climbs, the leaves can become considerably larger and more elongated.
Light supports larger leaves, tighter spacing, and strong silver coloration. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light without prolonged harsh sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K positioned about 8–12 inches above the canopy. Give it a moss pole, plank, or other vertical support if you want to encourage larger mature foliage. Lower light commonly produces slower growth, longer spacing between leaves, and progressively smaller foliage.
Allow the root zone to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow the excess to drain. Use a well-aerated mix of 1/3 succulent soil, 1/3 coarse orchid bark, and 1/3 grade 3–4 perlite. Its thicker leaves hold moisture better than thin-leaved tropicals, so avoid keeping the root zone continuously wet. Check deeper into the pot with a chopstick or water meter rather than using the appearance of the soil surface to determine when it needs water.
Watch the leaves and spacing between growth points for its clearest signals. Firm, thick foliage and progressively larger leaves indicate healthy growth. Curling or slightly folding leaves paired with a dry root zone can signal that it is ready for water, while yellowing leaves or softening stems with wet soil point toward excess moisture. Long spaces between leaves and smaller new growth usually indicate that it needs stronger light, while a climbing plant producing increasingly larger foliage is a good indication that its light, roots, and support are working together.
