Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Monstera adansonii (Swiss Cheese Plant) is a fast-growing, vining monstera known for its smaller, oval leaves filled with natural holes (fenestrations) that give it that “Swiss cheese” look. It has a lighter, more flexible growth habit compared to deliciosa, making it perfect for trailing from shelves or climbing up a support. As it matures and climbs, the leaves can get larger and more dramatic while keeping that signature perforated pattern.

Light drives both growth speed and leaf development. Place it in an east-facing window or a few feet back from a south or west-facing window where it receives steady, bright light without direct sun hitting the leaves. Under grow lights, aim for 5000K–6500K at 400–800 foot-candles. Too little light will cause smaller, solid leaves with fewer holes and longer spacing between nodes, while stronger light encourages fuller growth and more defined fenestrations.

Watering should stay consistent but not heavy. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let it drain. Use a chunky, well-draining mix (soil, perlite, orchid bark) to keep roots healthy. If leaves start to curl inward or feel thin, it’s ready for water—yellowing or soft stems can point to overwatering. This plant responds well to climbing; giving it a pole or trellis will encourage larger leaves and a more mature look.
