The Aglaonema, often called the Chinese Evergreen, is one of the most reliable and low-maintenance houseplants you can add to your collection. Native to the tropical forests of Asia, it is admired for its lush, patterned foliage that can range from deep green to striking mixes of silver, pink, and red. Its adaptability and air-purifying qualities make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant lovers who want beauty without too much fuss.

Aglaonemas thrive in medium to bright indirect light, but what makes them so appealing is their tolerance for lower-light conditions. This flexibility means they can brighten up corners of your home where many other houseplants struggle. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, especially in south- or west-facing windows, as their leaves can scorch. East-facing windows or several feet back from brighter exposures are perfect spots to help them maintain their vibrant color and healthy growth.

When it comes to care, Aglaonemas prefer evenly moist soil, but they don’t like to sit in water. Allow the top couple of inches of soil to dry before watering, and reduce frequency in cooler months. They enjoy moderate humidity but are generally forgiving in typical household environments. Feeding with a balanced fertilizer every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer will keep foliage lush. With their tolerance for a wide range of conditions, Aglaonemas are truly an ideal plant for homes, offices, and cozy indoor spaces alike.
