Peperomia plants are small, easy-to-care-for houseplants that are perfect for beginners. With their attractive foliage and low maintenance needs, they make great additions to indoor spaces. Here’s how to care for your Peperomia:
1. Light
- Bright, Indirect Light: Peperomias thrive in bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low to medium light conditions. However, in low light, their growth may slow, and the leaves may lose some vibrancy. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
2. Watering
- Water When Dry: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Peperomias are prone to root rot if overwatered, so always ensure the pot has good drainage and avoid letting the plant sit in standing water.
- Watering Frequency: In general, water every 1-2 weeks, but this will depend on your home’s temperature and humidity. In winter, you may need to water less frequently.
3. Humidity
- Average Humidity: Peperomias are adaptable to normal household humidity levels and don’t require extra moisture. However, they will appreciate a slightly higher humidity (40-50%) in drier indoor environments.
4. Temperature
- Ideal Range: Keep your Peperomia in temperatures between 60-80°F (16-27°C). Avoid placing it in cold drafts or areas with temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
5. Soil
- Well-Draining Potting Mix: Use a well-draining, lightweight potting mix, such as a general-purpose houseplant mix with added perlite. Peperomias don’t like to sit in waterlogged soil, so good drainage is essential.
6. Fertilizing
- Feed During Growing Season: Fertilize Peperomias during the spring and summer with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer, diluted to half strength. Feed every 4-6 weeks. Reduce fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant is dormant.
7. Pruning
- Minimal Pruning: Pruning is generally not needed unless you want to control the size or shape of the plant. You can trim back leggy stems to encourage fuller growth.
- Leaf Care: Occasionally clean the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them looking glossy.
8. Repotting
- Repot Every 1-2 Years: Repot your Peperomia when it becomes root-bound or the soil seems to have lost its structure. Choose a pot that is just 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the current one, as Peperomias prefer to be a bit snug in their pots.
Peperomias are relatively low-maintenance and resilient, making them an excellent choice for busy plant owners or those with limited experience. With the right care, your Peperomia will thrive, bringing a touch of greenery to your space.

from 449 reviewsPacked to arrive in perfect condition. The plant is so full and healthy. Will definitely purchase from you again!!!
I was surprised with a text from Mel, letting me know my options for selecting my first plant and asking my input about what plant I wanted. I was able to text back what I thought and just a couple days later, a beautiful black velvet Alocasia arrived, thoughtfully wrapped, all snug with a warming pouch. What a fun idea and well executed. I certainly look forward to next month! Thanks for being so informative, as well.
I purchased two varieties of synonyms from the shop. They arrived well-packed and literally not one blemish! It was shocking in the best way. Highly recommend this shop!
I am not one to respond to many emails or surveys but this book resonated with me in a special way today.
Long story short we have been thru a lot of trauma in the last 5 years. Loss in a hurricane, cancer and other surgeries between my husband and I.
A little personal, but relevant, we got in a tiff today because of how many plants I have acquired. I needed his help because I had surgery on Weds. Admittedly I have spent a lot on plants in the last 2 years but your book rang so true for me when you explained how plants support is by creating a calming environment. That whole paragraph spoke volumes to me as to why they are so important to me and my healing journey. Yes I most likely need to slow down in my purchases but even when it’s a chore to water and care for them by the time I am finished there is so much joy and accomplishment. Thank you for helping me make that connection. It helped me in a moment when I needed that clarity and how they impact my every day life.
This book is very well written and the illustration is stunning. I can’t wait to get the next volume! So much appreciated. Thank you
