Rhipsalis, often called Mistletoe Cactus, is a unique, tropical cactus with long, trailing stems that range from thin and wiry to thick and ribbon-like depending on the variety. Unlike desert cacti, Rhipsalis hails from rainforests and grows as an epiphyte—meaning it naturally lives on trees, soaking up filtered light and moisture from the air. Its quirky form and easygoing nature make it a great choice for hanging pots, shelves, or cascading plant walls.

Rhipsalis prefers bright, indirect light. A spot near an east- or north-facing window is ideal. It can also thrive a few feet away from a south- or west-facing window where it gets soft, filtered light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the stems and cause discoloration. Too little light will result in stretched or pale growth. This plant loves consistency, so try not to move it around too often once it’s happy.

Water when the top half of the soil is dry—Rhipsalis likes moisture more than a typical cactus but still needs well-draining soil. Use a light, airy mix like cactus soil blended with orchid bark or perlite. It enjoys moderate humidity and warm temperatures (65–80°F / 18–27°C). It doesn’t need much feeding—apply a diluted, balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Prune lightly to shape or encourage bushier growth. With the right care, your Rhipsalis will grow into a lush, trailing curtain of quirky green strands that bring effortless jungle vibes indoors.
