Peperomia plants are a diverse group of compact, easy-care houseplants prized for their thick, textured leaves and wide variety of colors and shapes. Native to Central and South America, these tropical epiphytes thrive in indoor conditions and are perfect for plant lovers who want something low-maintenance but visually interesting. Many peperomia varieties, like the Ripple, Watermelon, and Spoonleaf, make great additions to desks, shelves, or small plant corners.

Peperomias prefer bright, indirect light, making them ideal for east- or north-facing windows. They can also adapt to filtered light from west- or south-facing windows, but avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch their leaves. While they tolerate lower light conditions better than some tropical plants, too little light can cause leggy growth and dull leaf color. If the plant starts stretching toward the window or its leaves lose vibrancy, it likely needs a brighter spot.

These plants like to dry out between waterings, so use a well-draining soil mix and water only when the top inch of soil feels dry. Because of their semi-succulent leaves, peperomias are more tolerant of under-watering than overwatering, which can lead to root rot. They enjoy moderate humidity and room temperatures above 60°F. Peperomias are also non-toxic, making them a great choice for pet-friendly households.
