The pencil cactus (Euphorbia tirucalli) is a unique succulent that’s easy to care for with the right conditions. Here are some care tips for this plant:

Light: Pencil cacti thrive in bright, indirect light. They can also tolerate some direct sunlight, but too much can cause the leaves to burn.

Watering: Like most succulents, the pencil cactus prefers to dry out between waterings. Water it thoroughly when the soil feels dry to the touch, but be sure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot. In the winter months, reduce watering.

Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Good drainage is essential for this plant to thrive.

Temperature: Pencil cacti prefer warm temperatures, ideally between 60°F and 85°F. They are not frost-tolerant, so bring them indoors if the temperature drops below freezing.

Fertilizing: Feed your pencil cactus with a balanced, diluted fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) about once a month. Avoid fertilizing in the winter when the plant is dormant.

Pruning: If your pencil cactus gets too tall or leggy, you can prune it to maintain its shape. Be cautious, as the milky sap inside the stems can irritate skin and eyes.

Repotting: Repot your pencil cactus every couple of years to refresh the soil and allow for growth. Choose a pot with good drainage.

Pests: Pencil cacti are generally pest-resistant but keep an eye out for mealybugs or aphids. If you spot any, treat the plant with an appropriate insecticidal soap.
