Aloe ‘Night Sky’ is a succulent hybrid originating from South Africa, where many Aloe species grow in arid, rocky environments under full sun. Its unique dark green to nearly black leaves, speckled with white “stars,” are an adaptation to intense sunlight, which helps it retain moisture while producing its striking variegation. Understanding this native lighting informs how to care for it indoors.

Indoors, Aloe ‘Night Sky’ thrives in bright, indirect to direct light, ideally near a south- or west-facing window where it can receive several hours of sunlight. Morning sun from an east-facing window can also work, though it may not bring out the full intensity of the leaf pattern. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh midday sun through glass without acclimation, as this can cause sunburn. Insufficient light can make the plant leggy and dull its starry markings.

To maintain compact, healthy growth, rotate the plant occasionally so all sides receive light evenly. If natural sunlight is limited, a high-intensity full-spectrum grow light positioned above the plant can simulate its natural bright conditions. With consistent strong light, Aloe ‘Night Sky’ will maintain its dramatic coloration, firm leaves, and slow, architectural growth.
