Aglaonema, often called Chinese Evergreen, is one of the most popular and reliable houseplants thanks to its tolerance of a wide range of indoor conditions. Known for its striking foliage—spotted, striped, or marbled in shades of green, silver, red, or even pink—this plant brings a bold pop of color and texture to any room. It also has a reputation for being extremely low-maintenance, making it perfect for beginners or busy plant lovers.

Direction of light: Aglaonema thrives in low to medium, indirect light, which is why it’s often called a “low-light champion.” An east or north-facing window is ideal, but it can also adapt to spots several feet away from a south or west-facing window as long as direct rays don’t scorch its leaves. Varieties with lighter or more colorful foliage benefit from brighter indirect light to maintain their color, while darker green varieties are perfectly content in shadier corners.

For care, water your Aglaonema when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry, keeping the soil lightly moist but never soggy. It prefers temperatures between 65–80°F and enjoys moderate humidity, though it can adapt to average household levels. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted houseplant fertilizer. With the right care and lighting, Aglaonema will reward you with lush, vibrant foliage year-round.
