Episcia, commonly known as Flame Violet, is a stunning tropical plant prized for both its richly patterned foliage and occasional vibrant blooms. Native to Central and South America, Episcia belongs to the same family as African violets (Gesneriaceae) and is loved for its trailing growth habit and velvety leaves that come in shades of green, bronze, silver, and burgundy. The small, trumpet-shaped flowers appear in red, pink, orange, or white, adding bursts of color that contrast beautifully with its lush foliage.

To keep Episcia thriving indoors, place it in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves, while too little light may cause the plant to become leggy and reduce flowering. A north- or east-facing window is ideal, or a spot with filtered light throughout the day. If you're using grow lights, aim for 12–14 hours of gentle illumination to mimic its natural tropical environment.

Episcia loves warmth and humidity. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, and avoid letting it dry out completely. It thrives in well-draining, lightweight potting mix—similar to what’s used for African violets. High humidity is key to keeping Episcia healthy, so group it with other plants, use a pebble tray, or place it in a terrarium or greenhouse-style enclosure. With consistent warmth, moisture, and care, Episcia will trail beautifully and produce blooms that brighten any indoor space.
