Philodendron Warszewiczii 4” ‘Snowflake Leaf’

Philodendron warszewiczii is a distinctive climbing Philodendron known for its deeply divided, almost fern-like foliage. Mature leaves develop numerous narrow lobes along the central midrib, creating a dramatic, feathered appearance that becomes increasingly pronounced as the plant gains size. Native to parts of Central America, it is a naturally climbing aroid, and providing vertical support indoors allows it to develop the larger, more deeply divided foliage that makes the species so striking.

Light supports larger leaves, shorter spacing between growth points, and stronger mature development. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light without prolonged harsh sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. Give it a moss pole, plank, or other sturdy support to climb. Lower light or growing without support can result in longer internodes and progressively smaller or less-developed foliage.

Allow the soil to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let the excess drain away. Use a well-aerated mix of 1/3 succulent soil, 1/3 coarse orchid bark, and 1/3 grade 3–4 perlite. Check deeper into the root zone with a chopstick or water meter rather than relying on the surface of the soil. Keep it warm with moderate humidity and consistent airflow around the foliage and root zone.

Watch the newest leaves and spacing between growth points for its clearest signals. Increasing leaf size, deeper divisions, sturdy petioles, and shorter internodes indicate that the plant is receiving the light and support it needs. Smaller successive leaves or increasingly long spaces between leaves usually point toward insufficient light or lack of climbing support. Drooping paired with a dry root zone signals that it is ready for water, while yellowing foliage, softening stems, or declining growth with consistently wet soil indicate that the root zone is staying wet for too long.
