Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

Philodendron spiritus-sancti, native to Brazil, is an extremely rare climbing aroid known for its long, narrow, pendant leaves that can reach several feet in length. What makes this plant special is its form—thin, strap-like foliage with a smooth, slightly leathery surface that creates a dramatic, vertical cascading look, making it one of the most sought-after collector plants.

Light drives both leaf length and how narrow the foliage stays. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, leaves come in shorter and wider, losing that elongated, ribbon-like shape. Strong, even light keeps the foliage longer, thinner, and more defined.

Watering should stay consistent with excellent airflow at the roots. Allow the top portion of the mix to dry slightly, then water thoroughly and let it drain, using a very airy mix of orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of soil to hold light moisture. This plant shows stress through its growth—if new leaves are shorter or thicker, it’s reacting to light or airflow, not needing more water. If tips brown while the rest of the leaf stays firm, it’s often humidity or mineral buildup. If the base softens or declines while the soil is wet, the roots are staying too saturated rather than drying out.
