The Philodendron Red Congo is a bold, self-heading philodendron prized for its large, glossy leaves that start out a deep burgundy-red before maturing to a rich green. Unlike climbing philodendrons, this variety grows upright in a tidy clump, making it perfect as a statement plant for homes and offices. Native to the warm, humid climates of South America, the Red Congo brings both tropical elegance and easy care to indoor spaces.

When it comes to light, the Red Congo thrives in bright, indirect light, such as near an east- or north-facing window. It can handle medium light, but too little light will slow growth and dull its vibrant colors. Direct sun, especially from a south or west window, can scorch its leaves—so if placing it there, be sure to filter the light with sheer curtains. This balance of light helps it maintain strong, colorful foliage without damage.

Caring for this plant is refreshingly simple. Allow the soil to dry between waterings, as overwatering can cause root rot. It enjoys higher humidity but will adapt well to average household levels. Wipe the leaves occasionally to keep them shiny and free from dust, which also helps the plant absorb more light. With the right balance of light, water, and humidity, the Philodendron Red Congo will reward you with lush, bold growth all year round.
