Philodendron Birkin Pink 4” high color

Philodendron ‘Pink Birkin’ is a colorful cultivar known for its compact, self-heading growth and distinctive foliage striped and splashed with cream, white, pink, and green. What makes this plant special is the variation from leaf to leaf. New growth can emerge with fine pinstriping, broad pink sections, cream marbling, or a combination of colors, giving the plant a different appearance as each leaf opens.

Light is important for maintaining both the pink coloration and variegation. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it receives bright, consistent light without prolonged harsh sun hitting the foliage. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–12 inches from the top of the plant. In lower light, new growth may become increasingly green and the pink coloration can become less pronounced. Strong, even light supports brighter color, tighter growth, and larger leaves.

Allow the soil to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let the excess drain away. Use a well-aerated mix of 1/3 succulent soil, 1/3 coarse orchid bark, and 1/3 grade 3–4 perlite. Keep the root zone airy and avoid keeping the soil continuously wet. Moderate household humidity is usually sufficient, but stable temperatures and good airflow help new leaves unfurl cleanly.

Watch the newest leaves for the clearest signals. Strong pink and cream coloration with compact growth indicates good light and stable conditions. New leaves becoming increasingly green can signal lower light, although some variation between leaves is normal with this cultivar. Browning on pale pink or cream areas can develop from inconsistent moisture or excessive light intensity. Yellowing lower leaves while the soil remains wet or softness around the base points to excess moisture and root stress.
