Peperomia clusifolia, commonly known as the Red Edge Peperomia, is a popular houseplant appreciated for its attractive, fleshy leaves that feature red edges and a unique, compact growth habit. Caring for this plant is relatively easy as long as you follow a few essential guidelines:
Light:
- Bright, indirect light: Red Edge Peperomia thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so it’s best to place it near a window with filtered light.
- Low light tolerance: While it can tolerate lower light conditions, growth may become more sparse, and the coloration of the leaves may fade.
Watering:
- Moderate watering: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Overwatering is a common issue with this plant, so ensure that the pot has good drainage and avoid letting the plant sit in water.
- Reduce watering in winter: Like many houseplants, Peperomia enters a dormant phase in the cooler months, so reduce watering frequency.
Temperature and Humidity:
- Warm temperatures: Ideal temperatures are between 60-85°F (15-29°C). Keep it away from drafts, air conditioners, and heaters, as it prefers consistent warmth.
- Average humidity: Peperomias prefer moderate to slightly higher humidity but are quite adaptable. If your home is very dry, occasional misting or placing the pot on a humidity tray can help.
Soil:
- Well-draining soil: Use a light, well-draining potting mix. A cactus or succulent mix or a peat-based mix with added perlite or sand is ideal. Good drainage is crucial to avoid root rot.
Fertilizing:
- Moderate feeding: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing during the fall and winter months when the plant is not actively growing.
Potting & Repotting:
- Repot every 1-2 years: Repot when the plant outgrows its container or the soil begins to break down. Choose a slightly larger pot to allow for growth, but avoid a pot that’s too large as this can cause overwatering issues.
- Good drainage: Ensure that the pot has a drainage hole to prevent excess water from accumulating at the bottom.
General Care Tips:
- Leaf care: Wipe the leaves gently with a soft cloth to remove dust. Be careful not to damage the delicate leaves.
- Pest management: Peperomia is generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract mealybugs or aphids. Keep an eye out and treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Received my stunning alocasia in just a few days and she’s adjusting nicely! I opted in for the safe weather shipping and it was packed well. I’ll definitely order from the rooted plant shop again. All because my TIK tok page told me to use 70% alcohol (which is a collection saving trick!)!!

I love how my plants were so well packaged and arrived undamaged
I've had a lot of plants in my life, but this is probably the most unusual I've tried! I've also had quite a few real stones in my life as I grew up in a small family-owned gravel pit business! Melanie is so easy to work with, it is pleasure supporting her business.
