Alocasia ‘Venom’, a cultivated hybrid from Southeast Asian Alocasia lineage, is a compact, highly textured plant known for its thick, dark green leaves with deep veining and a slightly raised, almost armored surface. The foliage has a moody, dramatic look with a matte to slightly velvety finish, and as it matures, the leaves become more defined and structured, giving it a bold, sculptural presence.

Light supports both texture and leaf development. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 10–14 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will result in smaller leaves with less pronounced texture, while too much direct sun can damage the surface and cause fading.

Watering and environment need to stay consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark to keep it airy. If new leaves are emerging smaller with less defined veining, it is not getting enough light. If the plant begins to droop while the soil is still wet, it points to excess moisture at the roots. Edges crisping while the rest of the leaf stays firm often indicate low humidity or inconsistent moisture rather than overwatering.
