Alocasia Regal Shield 10”

Alocasia ‘Regal Shields’, a hybrid with roots in tropical Southeast Asian species, is a bold, large-leaf plant known for its deep green to near-black foliage with a velvety finish and contrasting lighter undersides. The leaves are broad and shield-shaped with strong veining, giving it a dramatic, structured presence. It grows upright from a central base, producing large, statement foliage that adds height and impact.

Light supports leaf size and overall strength. Place it in an east or south-facing window where it gets bright, consistent light without direct sun sitting on the leaves. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 8–12 inches from the top of the plant. Too little light will result in smaller leaves and slower growth, while too much direct sun can damage the leaf surface.

Watering and environment need to stay consistent. Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy and never fully dried out, using a mix of succulent soil, perlite, and orchid bark. If new leaves are coming in smaller or the plant stops pushing growth, it is not getting enough light. If leaves begin to droop while the soil is still wet, it is reacting to excess moisture at the roots. Yellowing leaves with soft stems point to overwatering, while firm leaves with slight droop can indicate it is ready for water.
