Swedish Ivy (Plectranthus verticillatus) is a trailing plant native to southern Africa, despite its misleading common name. It gained popularity in Europe, especially in Sweden, where it became a common houseplant, hence the name “Swedish Ivy.” It belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is appreciated for its vigorous growth and cascading stems with round, glossy green leaves.

Care:
Swedish Ivy is known for being low-maintenance and beginner-friendly. It prefers well-draining soil and should be watered when the top inch of soil feels dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's best to let the plant dry slightly between waterings. Regular pruning helps maintain its shape and encourages fuller growth. Swedish Ivy doesn’t require high humidity but appreciates occasional misting and benefits from monthly fertilization during the growing season (spring and summer).

Light Requirements:
In a home, Swedish Ivy thrives in bright, indirect light. A north- or east-facing window is ideal, as it provides enough light without the risk of scorching the leaves. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, growth may slow and the plant may become leggy. Avoid direct midday sun from south- or west-facing windows unless filtered by a sheer curtain.
