Aloe and Haworthia are both popular succulents, but they each have slightly different care needs. Aloe, known for its medicinal properties, thrives in bright, indirect sunlight, though it can tolerate some direct sun. However, too much direct sunlight, especially in hotter climates, can scorch its leaves. A common mistake with aloe care is overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Aloe prefers to dry out completely between waterings. It's best to wait until the soil is completely dry before watering again, and ensure the pot has good drainage to allow excess water to escape. Aloe also appreciates a well-draining cactus mix to keep the roots healthy.
Haworthia, on the other hand, can tolerate lower light conditions compared to aloe, making it a great choice for indoor environments with less natural sunlight. While it still enjoys bright, indirect light, direct sun can cause its leaves to turn red or brown. In terms of watering, Haworthia is also prone to root rot if overwatered, so a similar strategy should be applied: let the soil dry out between waterings. Unlike aloe, Haworthia has thicker, smaller leaves that store moisture, so it doesn’t need as much water. It's important to avoid high humidity and ensure that the plant is in a pot with good drainage.
For both aloe and Haworthia, temperature control is important. They both thrive in warm conditions, typically between 60-85°F (15-29°C), and prefer dry air. Avoid placing them in areas with cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C). A helpful trick for both plants is to occasionally rotate them to ensure even growth and prevent them from leaning toward a light source. With the right balance of light, water, and temperature, these succulents can thrive and provide beauty with minimal care.
Succulents are hardy and relatively low-maintenance plants, but they do have specific needs that, when met, can help them thrive. One often overlooked factor is proper soil drainage. Succulents require well-draining soil to prevent root rot, a common issue caused by excess moisture. Instead of using regular potting soil, opt for a mix specifically designed for cacti and succulents. Adding perlite or sand to the soil can further improve drainage. Be sure to use pots with drainage holes, as this allows water to escape, reducing the risk of waterlogged roots.
Another key element in succulent care is the importance of light. While succulents are generally sun-loving plants, many people don’t realize that too much direct sunlight can cause sunburn or stress. The best practice is to provide bright, indirect light, especially if the plant is indoors. If your succulent starts to stretch out and look leggy, it's likely a sign that it's not receiving enough light. On the other hand, some succulents, like certain varieties of aloe or agave, may need a bit more sun exposure to thrive, so it's essential to understand the specific needs of your plant species.
Watering techniques are perhaps the most critical aspect of succulent care, and surprisingly, many people tend to overwater. Succulents should be watered deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. A good rule of thumb is to check the soil by inserting a finger about an inch deep—if it feels dry, it’s time to water. Overwatering can cause the leaves to swell and become mushy, while underwatering can lead to shriveled, dry leaves. Additionally, succulents do best in a stable environment with moderate temperatures, avoiding sudden drafts or temperature extremes. Keeping them in a consistent environment helps prevent stress and allows them to grow strong and healthy.

Received my plants sooooo quick. The hot pack was still hot. Packing was done with great care. Unfortunately, my plant did not look great.
