Each plant is unique. Size, shape, fullness, and variegation will vary.

The Red Maranta is native to the tropical forests of Brazil and is known for its bold leaf pattern deep green leaves with bright red veins and a soft, matte texture. It’s called a prayer plant because the leaves move, laying flat during the day and folding upward at night. It stays low and slightly trailing, making it perfect for shelves or wider pots. This plant is highly desirable for its movement and pattern, not rarity.

Place this plant in a north or east-facing window about 1–3 feet from the glass, or a west window 3–5 feet back. It prefers softer, filtered light and will show stress quickly in harsh direct sun with fading or crisping. Under grow lights, use 5000K–6500K placed 12–14 inches above the plant. If the leaves start to lose contrast or stretch, it needs more light, but if the pattern looks washed out or edges burn, it’s getting too much.

Water when the soil is about halfway dry using a chopstick or meter, and aim to keep moisture consistent without letting it stay soggy. Marantas are sensitive to drying out completely and will curl or crisp if pushed too far. They prefer moderate to higher humidity, and leaf edges browning is often a humidity or water quality issue. If leaves stay curled during the day, it’s usually underwatering or stress, while yellowing and soft stems point to overwatering.
