Poinsettia 4” Pink
Poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima) are popular holiday plants known for their vibrant red, pink, or white bracts. To keep your poinsettia healthy and looking its best, here are some key care tips:
1. Light
- Poinsettias thrive in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch their leaves, while too little light can cause the plant to become leggy and weak.
2. Temperature
- Keep your poinsettia in a warm room, ideally between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Avoid placing it in areas with drafts, near heaters, or in cold windows, as sudden temperature changes can damage the plant.
3. Watering
- Water your poinsettia when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Be careful not to overwater, as they don’t like sitting in water. Ensure the pot has good drainage to avoid root rot.
- Always empty any excess water from the saucer after watering.
4. Humidity
- Poinsettias prefer a humid environment. If the air in your home is dry, especially during winter, consider placing a humidifier nearby or placing the pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water (making sure the pot is not sitting directly in the water).
5. Fertilizing
- After the blooming season (around late winter), you can start fertilizing your poinsettia with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. Stop fertilizing once the plant starts blooming.
6. Pruning and Deadheading
- Once the bracts (the colorful parts) fade, you can trim the plant to keep it looking tidy. Trim back any leggy or dead stems. This encourages healthy growth, but avoid cutting too much if you're keeping the plant for next season.
7. Post-Holiday Care
- If you plan to keep the poinsettia after the holiday season, continue caring for it as a houseplant through the winter. To encourage blooming again for the next season, poinsettias require a period of darkness for about 12-14 hours a day starting in late September for about 8-10 weeks.
8. Reblooming
- To rebloom your poinsettia, the plant needs a period of darkness for 12-14 hours per day for about 8-10 weeks, typically starting in late September. After that, resume normal care, and the plant should start showing color around late November or early December.

from 37 reviewsI was leery of shipping this plant, however it arrived in perfect condition, travelling from Michigan to California, and was even blooming when it arrived! I am so pleased with this as it was a gift for my niece. I will happily ship a plant from The Rooted Plant Shop again!

She arrived well packaged along with my other two plants. She is full and healthy! So glad I purchased her!
Love my new fern! She made it to her new home safe and sound. The Rooted even messaged me about what day they were shipping out making sure it was a day the weather wasn’t so hot the plant would scorch. Definitely recommend!
This was a very fun workshop to attend! I learned a lot about different varieties of carnivorous plants, while getting to build my own beautiful carnivorous terrarium! The 2 plants I chose are thriving, and definitely helping with the gnat population in my house.
